Whenever we want to search anything specific about India, normally we google it or yahoo it. But many are not aware that now search engines index pages by country. Search Engines India specific indexes give more accurate results than generic search. Here are some India search engines.
Google India: To improve India specific results in google, go to Google India and select the button underneath the search button for pages from India. Now Google offers search in Hindi also. I have made a Google custom search engine to search 43 Indian News papers and News Site. You can try that in the sidebar.
Yahoo India: Yahoo has many options for searching for Indian content. You can search in local languages Hindi, Kannada, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali , Malayalam and Gujarati. They have more than 45 Indian city specific content for the following cities: Agra, Allahabad, Amritsar, , Bangalore , Chennai,Dehradun, Jamshedpur, Raipur, Surat, Varanasi , Vijayawada , Coimbatore, Mangalore, Ahmedabad, Pune, Kochi, Jaipur, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Delhi, Goa, Srinagar, Kanpur, Nagpur,Hubli/Dharwad,Visakhapatnam (Vizag) Jammu, Nasik, Trichy, Udaipur, Vadodara,Guwahati, Patna, Ranchi, Indore, Puducherry,Madurai, Shimla,Lucknow,Bhopal Mysore, Bhubaneswar and Thiruvananthapuram. In these city specific portals, you can read city specific news in regional videos, photos, disscussion forums, and city maps. Through Yahoo Answers you can also get city specific answers to your questions.
MSN India: MSN also provides search in Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam, Telegu and Kannada.
Guruji: Guruji is the only growing Indian search engine which indexes only Indian sites. It provides searches in Gujarati, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. It also provides Indian city specific content. They recently started to offer mobile search in WAP/GPRS enabled mobile phones.
